What’s Love Got to Do with it? Relationships 101

What are the the ingredients that make a relationship successful?

If you have been in a relationship for any duration of time and hit that first bump you may find yourself asking this question, I know that I have! There are millions of books, seminars, tapes, CDs, DVDs and counseling sessions sold every year addressing that question alone. Churches have couples ministries that run the spectrum of this question from pre-marital 101 courses to help for the separated.

What IS it about relationships that can be so tricky for us humans?

This week we will hear from some of my favorite people on relationships. I’ve had this series in my head for a long time, and thanks to some fabulous – and very wise – friends, it has finally arrived!

Tuesday: Joy Eggerichs: Joy is the daughter of Dr. Emerson Eggerichs (author of Love and Respect) and his lovely wife Sarah. Joy will explain how we crossed paths in her blog and video. For me, this intersection with a new bloggy blog friend has been an absolute delight. Joy has a heart for the younger generations and so tends to address the topic of relationships from a very unique perspective. In her post, Joy also has chosen to share the story that led her to begin the journey she is on. Truly Joy is a voice for relationships in the next generation and I am thrilled to have her as a part of the series.

Oh and yes, she is absolutely just as much fun as this photo suggests!

Wednesday: Dr. Emerson Eggerichs: Dr. Eggerichs is Joy’s dad and the founder of the Love and Respect ministry based on his best-selling book called Love and Respect. He has logged thousands of hours with couples helping them to understand how to improve their marriages and align them with biblical principles. The wealth of relationship knowledge Dr. Eggerichs brings to our relationship discussion is sure to encourage and delight.

Thursday: Justin Davis and Friday: Trisha Davis: Justin and Trisha are the co-founders of marriage ministry and John’s and my skype-marriage mentors (how cool is that)! Justin and Trisha have fifteen years of marriage under their belt and a heart for coming alongside of couples who desire to improve the quality of their relationships. Justin is currently the Pastor at Crosspoint-Bellvue and he and Trisha have raised three adorable boys, Elijah, Micah, and Isaiah. Their writing is full of heart, compassion, and depth, and their leadership embodies those same qualities. John and I have already benefitted from their relationship wisdom and I know y’all will too!

So I hope that you enjoy this series and have as much fun with it as I have had putting it together. I pray God blesses each of you with new insights, encouragements, and resources for your relationship journey! May God bless you richly this week and always!

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35

  1. I can not wait to read this weeks posts!!!

I believe the LOVE and RESPECT concepts… even though they are not easy to live by…. especially when only one is “living” them…

  2. Jenny,
The Eggerichs did the Love and Respect workshop at our church CCV (Christs church of the Valley) about 2 years ago, Stacia and I thought it was great, very insightful. I am really looking forward to your series.
